So, it is lunch time and we decided to stop in the Grand Canyon in Yellowstone and picnic. All the tables were full. So at this one area, we backed the cars up and started to unload in the ants. We couldn't stay there so Papa Tim points out this grassy field and said, "hey, let's go up on that grassy meadow and picnic there." So we did. We sat where the star is in the picture. We spread out and made our sandwiches and had chips and cookies. We were there probably 20 minutes or so having fun and eating. And we looked down in the parking lot and these people were pointing up at us. I said, "why are those people pointing up here at us? Is there an animal or something?" Scott turned around and I wish you could have seen the look on his face. About 20 yards or so behind us was a buffalo grazing and we had no idea he was there! Apparently, the buffalo had crossed the road and then came up on us but we didn't know it. The look on Scott was priceless as he started down the hill yelling for us to get out of there .. we were scrambling grabbing the cooler and throwing stuff in it and getting down the hill! It didn't help any that I had read the flier tucked in the Yellowstone paper that people get gored by buffalo and they can run up to 30 mph - 3 x's our speed. So we were officially freaked out that it was that close to us!!! Had it not been for the people in the parking lot pointing, who knows when we would have noticed him! He was huge but he sure was quiet!!! This is so cool!!!! Everywhere we turn, it has been another adventure!
