Spencer's Birthday

A day in the life of Spencer ..... he turned six today. He climbed in bed and snuggled as close as he could to his dad and whispered in his ear, "Hey Dad, I have to tell you something. I am six today." And when he decided he had enough snuggling with him, he left his blanket and his batman doll snuggled in next to Scott to be sure he would not forget him. We know these days are going to be gone in the blink of an eye. And in the meantime, where do we get the strength to endure every day? It is a constant reminder of why we do what we do. It isn't for ourselves and we must remind ourselves of that. It is a hope that in the end of life, their hearts and eyes will be turned to our redeemer, the Perfecter of our faith. Doing anything for ourselves will always be in vain ... a hard lesson to learn and seems to be the constant reminder of this week. A battle I know I cannot win on my own.

THE MOTLEY CREW

Well, we survived .... our first all boy sleepover party! We had seven 5-6 years for the first time and it was pretty hysterical! It is Spencer's 6th birthday and he wanted to have a sleepover! So .. we decided to do it and it was fun! We had pizza, a scavenger hunt for the cake and ice cream, played games, videos and watched a movie. This morning, they were up at 5:45am and immediately hit the floor running. Scott and I were looking at eachother thinking .... when will they ever sleep in???!!!! And then I remembered something funny. I always hear elders say they can't sleep in anymore. Is that really true? Because I am thinking by the time all my kids sleep-in as teenagers, does this mean I'm not going to enjoy it with them? And why is that?? Why would our bodies adjust and change like that?!??!! It is JUST CRUEL!!! In the meantime, we will continue to rise early and take it in stride. I know .. before we know it, this time will be gone! Aren't they all just so cute????!!!!

Happy 65th Birthday!!

My parents, Leonard and Jane, who do not even own a computer and REFUSE to buy one are officially in the internet. I have decided to not tell them for fear they will disown me from the family.

We celebrated Dad's 65th birthday in February. God has been merciful and kind to all of us when we realize we have had 35 years plus with him. I am thankful most that my children have a wonderful relationship with their "Pap." They spent the week with my children 24/7 while we were in Maui. The stories we came back to were quite funny. You never know what will come out of their mouths. They got to run carpools, do homework, 6am wake-up calls from the kids, baseball and gymnastic practices, etc. They did it all ... well, memaw did most and dad golfed that week. But I think he did help some :o) Anyway, my point? I am thankful that my parents are still here and even at times when we all may not see eye to eye, we have fun times. I remind myself often lately, "we are all getting older." While that reality is also around the corner, I believe God is busy restoring relationships to their rightful places. We are running out of time when it comes to building relationships that are real. I think that is what we all want in the end, right? Be real .. be vulnerable .. be willing to get hurt. I find that scarey. Do you?

Why .. I do not know

I do not know why we have a blog on our family. I think we must be really bored. But the more thought I put into it, my question was why not. I still do not have an answer to either question.

I attached a picture of Jack, our youngest son. He found the shower cap from our trip in my bag and decided to wear it while practicing his writing skills! He is our creative one .... I woke up yesterday morning and realized I only have two and a half months left with just him before he begins kindergarten. The kids will all be home for the summer and this is it for me. No more babies, no more little ones at home during the day come August. I am sad. I have been blessed beyond measure to have been home with the boys and Erica while they were little. And the reality of everyone growing up is here. And the reality of a job is becoming very real, too! But in the end, I do not complain and all the complaining that I have done seems trivial in the big scheme. I have shared trips to the parks, picnics, errands and all for seven years with somebody or someones. And it has been a blessing. So for the next two months, someone hold me accountable for complaining!!!!
